Is your volunteer program thriving or surviving?

Hi, my name is Karin. I help nonprofit organizations strengthen their impact through effective volunteer management, board governance, and inclusive practices. With years of hands-on experience in program logistics and community engagement, I support organizations in building sustainable, mission-driven strategies. My goal is to empower nonprofits to maximize their volunteer potential while fostering inclusive and well-governed environments. Let’s work together to create lasting change!

Traditional support options just aren’t cutting it:

Hiring In-House

Tight budgets often lead to hiring junior staff who need significant time, training and oversight. Add in limited capacity, gaps in expertise, role creep and slow time to impact - and it’s easy to see why progress stalls.

Hiring a Consultant

Bringing in expert-level support at a fraction of the cost. I offer a fresh perspective, strategic alignment, and laser focus on your priorities - delivering faster results without the overhead. And best of all? I wear one hat: yours.

About Karin

With years of experience in the nonprofit sector, I’ve dedicated my career to strengthening communities, engaging volunteers, and tackling the social issues that matter most. My background spans program leadership, stakeholder collaboration, and strategic problem-solving—all grounded in the goal of creating meaningful, lasting change. (Along with my side hustle of being a mom to two now-adult children!)

For the past five years, I was proud to serve as a leader at Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids (BB4CK), an organization committed to ending food insecurity for kids in Calgary. At BB4CK, I built and strengthened volunteer-driven programming, cultivated partnerships across sectors, and contributed to initiatives that supported thousands of kids and families. This work deepened my expertise in volunteer management, program operations, accessibility, and community-led impact.

I'm also proud to hold a Certification in Nonprofit Management from Mount Royal University. and the Certification in Volunteer Administration (CVA) credential, which reflects my deep commitment to volunteer engagement and leadership excellence. CVAs are recognized as strategic architects, articulate ambassadors, relationship builders, talent cultivators, data managers, champions of quality—and passionate leaders. I strive to live up to each of these roles in my work.

My work has always centered around people. Over the years, I have led initiatives that supported thousands of volunteers and the communities they serve. I specialize in turning big ideas into practical, people-centered solutions. From volunteer engagement strategies to inclusive system design, I bring a strategic lens grounded in creativity, compassion, and real-world experience. I offer organizations the clarity and tools they need to lead with confidence and grow in ways that feel sustainable and true to their mission.

Outside of consulting, I am a contributing author of The Equity in Action Volunteer Managers Toolkit. As a volunteer myself, I currently serve on the Outreach Committee with the Council for Certification in Volunteer Administration and as the Vice President of South Side Minor Hockey Association, mentoring future CVAs, young athletes, coaches, and volunteers in leadership and governance. These roles keep me grounded in community, connected to youth, and always learning.

I’m always open to meaningful collaborations that drive social good. Let’s connect!

“I volunteered for an organization Karin was affiliated with, and developed greater interpersonal skills from her enthusiasm and energy. She was, on a number of occasions, able to transition me into positions that challenged my softer skillsets where I was able to develop deeper and more well rounded interpersonal and developmental skills. Based on this I would highly recommend Karin as someone to work with to grow your volunteer community.”

— Julie, Volunteer

“Over the past three years as President of our hockey association, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with Karin, who has served as both Vice President and Team Manager. Her contributions have been instrumental to our growth and success—not only in her leadership and operational roles, but especially through her exceptional consulting ability. Karin has a unique talent for offering thoughtful, strategic advice, often seeing challenges from multiple angles and helping guide decisions with clarity and confidence. Whether we were facing tough choices or exploring new opportunities, I could always count on her to provide honest feedback, grounded perspective, and innovative solutions. Her ability to listen, analyze, and advise has made her an irreplaceable part of our leadership team and a key reason our association has continued to evolve and thrive

— Ryan Turner, President Southside Hockey Association

Successful volunteer programs take time and consistency. Your results depend on where you are starting and what your priorities are. When is the right time to make this investment? That depends on your ambitions for your organization. I am here to make the most of your investment.
